Dear Captain,
I am applying for the position of \blank, advertised on Grapevine. I hold a valid STCW 2010, ENG1, and am available immediately. Seeking a full-time deckhand position, I have enclosed my CV for your consideration.
I have practical seamanship skills through a lifelong history of sailing a 29ft Westerly Merlin on The Solent and South UK, including solo passages and inter-club races in various tidal and weather conditions. Logging 630 nautical miles last year, I have proficiency with power and sail handling, chartwork, ropework, mooring, anchoring, and onboard safety. I have an RYA Day Skipper and Yachtmaster Theory, with the goal of taking the Yachtmaster exam this year.
% During the winter months, we lift her out for maintenance where I perform antifouling (and recently copper coating), varnishing, painting, electrical repairs, and engine maintenance. I believe these skills make me an invaluable asset to your crew.
For the past three years, I have worked weekends as an RYA Dinghy Instructor in Chichester Harbour, leading safe and fun sailing lessons for all abilities, looking after nine students, laying out sailing courses, and giving personalised instruction. I am experienced with outboard RIB driving where I give my lessons, including boat handling and coming alongside moving sailing dinghies to provide assistance.
I am committed to building a long-term career in yachting and progress towards OOW certificates. I am a non-smoker, have no tattoos, have no food allergies or dietary requirements, and I am currently based in Antibes, France.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Robert Fry.

As an RYA Dinghy Instructor with three years experience in teaching children and young adults, I bring a wealth of safe and fun activities that leave a lasting impression on guests.
With an extensive lifelong history of sailing a 29ft Westerly Merlin in the Solent, solo skipper and crew, club racing and cruising, I've developed my seamanship skills.
I realised I wanted to pursue a hands-on maritime career when approached by Sussex University Sailing Club to be their sole skipper, chartering a 44ft Sun Odyssey 439 in Athena, Greece.
